After scouring through the forum, it seems that this problem may be limited to certain devices or to certain software types. I am currently using Office 365 for my Macbook 12' (2015) model and am running on Mac OS Sierra version 10.12.3 (16D32). My powerpoint version is: The problem is that when I type into any text box or title in Powerpoint, the text appears very slowly. Makes it difficult to type quick and fast and the lag is really irritating. I tried the numerous workarounds here and it doesn't work.
From booting in safe mode to closing all other applications and even removing ALL of my startup items, it still is slow when typing. The only time it doesn't work is when I create a new user account on my Mac and swap to the new account and opening a new powerpoint file, the typing returns to normal. I hope MS can resolve this issue or at least help pinpoint what the other causes may be. Hi Mark, It seems that the issue can be solved by creating a new user account.
If yes, the issue may be caused by that the previous user account is corrupted. Given the situation, I suggest you try the steps below to see if the issue goes away when you log into Mac with the previous user account. Check if there is an update in your operation system.

Press Cmd-Shift-G. Type in /Library/Caches to go to the caches folder. Note: Totally removing the cache is not recommended so save a backup of all the cache files before deleting them. If something happens, you can restore the old files using the backup. Restart the Mac to check the result. Meanwhile, you can also use the new account to work with PowerPoint 2016 for Mac.
Thanks, Cliff. If you get better performance under another user account, it indicates your old account has been corrupted. Please consider moving your files from your old account to the new one to restore the performance you expect.
You can do this by copying everything from the Document, Movies, Music, etc. Folders to your old accounts Public folder.
